Walkers Nurseries – for kids who love discovery

Walkers Nurseries in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, is described as a Garden Centre ‘experience’ for good reason. The gardens there are so beautiful that they are often used for wedding photos, and there is lots more for kids to do too. If you’re stopping for a bite to eat in the cafe too, a good few hours could be spent here.

As a garden centre, all parts are free to enter. They are open daily except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Easter Sunday.

Prams and Accessibility:

It is a very pram friendly place, with plenty of baby change areas and high chairs. Even the gardens are pram friendly and wheel chair accessible. There are no stairs.

Things to do at Walkers Nurseries

1. Go Outside

There is lots to see outside, starting with the sheep and alpacas! There is a play area with towers to climb, slides, and even some water chutes. As part of the garden centre, show gardens have been built and they make for a wonderful walk around and a great place for a picnic. There are lots of sculptures to spot and bridges to explore.

2. Shop and Eat

There are some wonderful quirky things in this garden centre, as well as everything you would expect to find such as plants, local produce and garden care. Their cafe and restaurant is spacious and serves hearty meals, lighter snacks and a range of cakes and drinks.

With tons of exotic animals and a focus on conservation and putting the animals first, Yorkshire Wildlife Park is a top day out with the family. Look out for free tickets around Mother’s Day and Father’s Day too!

2. Cusworth Hall

Cusworth Hall is an excellent free day out with the kids in South Yorkshire. On sunny days, Cusworth Hall parklands are the perfect place for picnics and feeding the ducks, and on rainy days there is the hall and museum itself to explore.

3. Brodsworth Hall

With exquisitely curated gardens and hidden historical buildings, Brodsworth Hall is a great place to visit if you’re looking for things to do with kids in South Yorkshire. Its an English Heritage property and therefore free to members, so lots of wonderful picnics can be held in these beautiful gardens. There is always lots going on at Brodsworth Hall, from live music to seasonal activities.

4. JungleMazeia

This soft play in Thorne is suitable for kids of all ages. There is a separate area for toddlers and one for babies too, as well as a multi-tiered play area for older kids, and a snack bar to be enjoyed by everyone.

5. Conisbrough Castle

At Conisbrough Castle, there is a central, very well preserved medieval keep with several floors that you can explore, grounds with excellent views over the town of Conisbrough, and the romantic ruins of a curtain wall. You can visit the museum and kid friendly activity room.
