Sewerby Hall and Gardens – for kids who love adventure

This historic hall, located in the East Riding of Yorkshire near Bridlington, has tons of things to see and do for all ages. Even the littlest of people have a dedicated room with soft play toys. Not only that, but there is a small zoo and plenty of beautiful gardens to explore! On a sunny day, I’d say at least half a day can be spent well at Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

There is a large free car park for visitors. If travelling by bus, disembark at the Sewerby Church Lane bus stop, which is just outside the car park. From Easter to September, the Land Train can bring you to Sewerby Hall and Gardens from Bridlington. Click here for more information on Land Trains.

Prams and Accessibility:

Sewerby Hall and Gardens do not permit prams or motorised wheelchairs in the house, though hand-pushed and self-propelled wheelchairs are available to borrow. There is a secure buggy park to the rear of the hall. The rest of the areas, including zoo, café and grounds, are accessible.

Things to do at Sewerby Hall and Gardens:

1. Explore the house

In the house, there are activities to do for even the smallest people. One room has soft blocks in, suitable for crawling babies to clamber over, and another is filled with toys. We really enjoyed the dressing up room too! For those of you that are interested in the history of the house, there is plenty of information and interesting pieces inside, including furniture from the Victoria and Albert Museum.

2. Visit the Zoo

I found this zoo to be a bizarre mixture of farm animals and much more exotic animals! We really enjoyed seeing the capuchin monkeys and all the different birds here in particular, including the penguins.

3. Go to the café and explore the gardens

With plenty of pram-suitable paths and highchairs in the café, this is a very family friendly place. They serve a mixture of warm food, pastries and sandwiches in a beautiful setting.
